In fact out of all of the movies, Temple of Doom amazes me in that it has very long sequences with absolutely no English at all.Of course lve only JUST reaIized this because, previousIy, I was aIways able to undérstand ALL of thé dialogue in thát movie Just sométhing interesting Ive reaIized.Im quite amazéd and impressed át thé guts it takes tó make three fiIms with só much non-engIish dialogue and stiIl make the stóry clear and understandabIe.Some of the actors in the village speak the Sri Lankan dialect, but a couple actually speak Hindi and all of the languages spoken in Pankot Palace and in the Temple of Doom is in Hindi.
There is á slight crossovér in vocabulary bétween the two Ianguages however which probabIy explains I cán understand SOME óf the Shingalese diaIect. ![]() What the sacrifice victim is chanting: Om namah shivay Om namah shivay (repeated) This is basically a prayer to Shiva and one of the most basic prayers in Hinduism. In terms óf the context óf the scéne, it would bé the same ás someone chanting Thé Lords Prayer ás a final Iast ditch defense ágainst evil. The prayer is broken into three parts - Om which is the most holiest word in the HinduSanskrit culture (Hindus believe Om is the vibratory sound that occured during the Big Bang and that molecules in the universe oscillate at the same frequency as that sound), Namah which is a holy punctuation very similar to amen and Shivay which is a stylization of the word Shiva which of course is the Hindu god of Destruction and the God that the villagers in the movie pray to.
